Congratulations to Easton Scherrer! Easton, who attends the Area 18 Fire and Rescue Program at South Adams, competed in the 2025 State SkillsUSA Firefighting competition. He placed 2nd at State for the 2nd year in a row!
For this competition, students had to take a written test, showing their knowledge in firefighting. They also had to turn in a resume, be in approved uniform, take a SkillsUSA online test, tie 4 randomly selected knots and properly don their turnout gear in under a minute. They also did a timed physical agility course while in full turnout gear and wearing an SCBA. During part of the course, they were blindfolded while searching, had to carry hoses, saws, swing sledgehammers, go over and under obstacles, and drag a 165-pound dummy 25 yards. It’s a very physically exhausting course. Great job, Easton!
