One of the most frequently produced high school shows of 2024, Bad Auditions by Bad Actors answers the question of what could happen behind the scenes during the casting of a play. In fact, while the various actors that appear onstage are highly exaggerated caricatures of “bad” actors giving even worse auditions, there is one line that strikes every director as true: casting is truly 90% of the director’s work, and the rest is just managing movement.

The cast was involved in selecting this show—there were several options examined as a group, and each student found themselves drawn to a certain character or scene. However, the numbers were still a few actors short of a full cast, even if nearly everyone played two or more roles… so a unique opportunity presented itself. What could happen if certain people well-known to Norwell students were to appear on stage in this show? The audience will likely recognize a number of “extras” in some scenes, whose presence adds immensely to the hilarity.

Bad Auditions by Bad Actors is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com) and opens Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Norwell High School auditorium with a repeat performance Saturday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
